Mont Saint-Michel, France
April 28, 2018 | 14 Days | Aboard the Ocean Adventurer
In 2016, Zegrahm explored the western coast of Europe from Portugal to France for the first time; and, after an incredible inaugural journey, they are thrilled to return next April! This expedition has everything: fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Sites, wine tasting and vineyard tours, World War II history, and opportunities to search for resident birdlife. Highlights include:
- Exploring Spain’s Santiago de Compostela—home to a mélange of Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque buildings—and France’s Mont Saint-Michel, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You’ll even get to ascend the Mont through twisting alleys and narrow stairways to reach the monastery, offering grand views of the bay and marshes below.
- Wine tasting in Bordeaux, the world’s wine industry capital; you’ll also sample port in its birthplace of Porto, Portugal, as well as sip cognac in La Rochelle.
- Observing remnants of the German occupation during World War II in Guernsey, an English outpost located off the coast of France.
- Searching for the various bird species that call the region home, including warblers and buntings in the Channel Islands, as well as white storks, black-winged stilts, and nightingales at La Teich Bird Reserve.
